we all have to think of somthing to write about, so i thought i would do a research paper on why the people in
the town of odessa tx (dillion in the show) care so much about high school football while other towns and other
parts of america really dont care about hgh school football.

The level of importance of football to the citizens of Odessa was unfamiliar to me growing up in a Massachusetts town. By watching Friday Night Lights, I was introduced to a football team that was carefully and constantly watched and supported by the whole town community. This level of community involvement in one football team was something new to me. As I watched Friday Night Lights, I started to wonder why following high school football is a way of life for the majority of the Odessa population.
In order to understand a football crazed town, I will analyze the families in Odessa over generations. By comparing overall growth, history, location, economy, and opportunities, I will discover why exactly some towns and communities value high school football more than others.
The question is, What is the difference Why are some places and people treating football like a religion while some people don’t care at all.
My research has lead me to believe that part of this football phenomenon has to do with the remote location of Odessa. The location plays a major role in the lives of the citizens of this small city because it cuts them off from the rest of the world. Odessa is a five hour drive to any city that could offer more opportunities other than winning the state championship for a high school football team.
The population of Odessa in 1930 was estimated at 2,407 and has experienced a steady incline since. Today Odessa s population has reached over 118,968 and is showing no signs of decreasing. The theory i am proposing is that the people that call Odessa home plan to stay for life. The steady population growth is not the only sign of stagnation in Odessa Texas.
