Section 2

Slide pair: 2 slides will be shown for 15 minutes. You are required to provide the following information for each slide:

Name of artist/sculptor (1 mark)
Title of work (1 mark)
Date of work (within 2 years) (1 mark)

Discussion of the two slides: You will be provided with a specific prompt in the exam. Be prepared to discuss similarities and differences in your answer.

Tips: When discussing the 2 images you should consider such things as: training, influences, life events, opportunities, personalities, critical reception. You should also discuss the formal composition of the works (including things like the use of light & shadow, the use of colour, the creation of space, the main focal points); and the effect of the works. (9 marks). TOTAL: 15 MARKS
Section 3

Essay question. You will be have 50 minutes to answer the following essay question. You must use paragraph form and you must cite examples when appropriate (include name of artist, title of work, medium, date). You are expected to discuss material from lectures 8-12 (inclusive).

Question: Artists groups and organizations have played an important part in the development of Canadian art. Using specific examples (artists and artworks), discuss the arts organizations that were active between 1880 and 1945. Some of the things that you should consider are the main figures in the groups (including those that were not part of the groups, but were influential), reasons why the groups formed, the main ideologies of the groups, the main activities of the groups, landmark exhibitions, types of subject matter and stylistic tendencies of the groups, and the critical reception of the groups. Note: Your examples should include: name of the artist, name of the work, medium, and date.
