Introduction to Organizational Diversity and Identity

Introduction to Organizational Diversity and Identity
Paper details:

Part I

Describe your reactions, perceptions and significant insights gained from the reading and activities that you completed. What you write should not be a summary of what you read (as your professor already knows what the readings say) or a simple “regurgitation” of what you read, but be focused on these issues:
What key things did you learn about diversity management (6 points)
What key things did you learn about identity (for you In general )(6 points)
Discuss your pie chart (6 points)
How did you score on the cultural intelligence pre-test What were your strengths and what areas do you need to improve upon (6 points) My score was a “52”
How does all of this relate to considerations in organizations (of which there are many kinds, so you can think broadly here). (4 points)

For part 1, please cite from each of the attached references, and the one listed below. (Each is worth 3 points)

Bonus time: Include the following in your paper and possibly earn up to 5 extra points: Part of our identity includes our world view. Please read the article Body Ritual Among the Nacirema Miner_Nacirema.pdf and discuss your initial reactions to this culture. After you have read the article and written your original reflection click here. Now, relative to your original thoughts and what you know now discuss the following:

*How does our cultural worldview influence and inform our perception of people from other cultures
*How does Body Ritual Among the Nacirema help us understand our own view of other cultures and how we are viewed by other cultures
*Why do some of the practices and rituals of other cultures seem odd or foreign to us How do our own cultural norms affect our understanding and perception of other cultures

Part II

Describe your family “organization” (or you may choose another organization, but family is often best for this particular paper) using terms from A/V lessons 4- 6.

In other words, look at your family (or other clearly defined organization) through the eyes of ONE of the cultural value MODELS (not just one concept but a whole model) discussed in the presentations. You may choose which model but identify it clearly and connect to the different parts of the model as you go through it. Hofstede’s model is a popular choice. So, for instance, taking one concept from that model as a quick example for you….How would you describe your family in terms of how collectivistic or individualistic it tends to be (do members differ) Why Then go on to the another concept of that model like what about attitudes toward power in the family Uncertainty avoidance And so on. (10 points)

For this part, the topic organization will be the bank I work for. I am a Senior Client Officer, and it’s a bank worth $5.4 billion dollars. Use any bank as a model and it will be the same as mine. Lastly, use Hofsteded model like the professors suggests.

Classism is defined as “prejudices based on false assumptions” (Fahy, 2009, p. 158). OR: Class is often ignored as a contributing factor to life chances (Scully and Blake-Beard, 2009).
